Emerging Hobart singer-songwriter Aaron Green hopes his success in a major national competition will translate into a positive reception for his debut EP. Green's six-track EP, Live at Martian's Law, features five pop-rock tunes plus the R 'n' B number The Game (Pointless Affair), with which Green took third place in the Urban category of last year's MusicOz Awards.
Making the top five of the awards, Australia's premier awards for unsigned and independent artists, scored Green, 21, a trip to attend the presentation ceremony in November in Sydney, where he set about networking and making contacts. Making the top 10, let alone the top three, came as a complete surprise to Green, who entered a simple homemade recording of The Game. "I'm influenced by R 'n' B. I don't really write it, but I try to," he said. "I just recorded it crappily in my bedroom on my computer. I sent it in and got in the top 10, which i thought was awesome. Then I heard it made the top five and I got the invitation [to Sydney]. It was crazy."
Live at Martian's Law was recorded by Tony Sayer at the Live at Marian's Law gig at Hobart's Italian Club late last year. Aaron Green will launch Live at Martian's Law at The Mayf in Sandy Bay from 9pm tomorrow, accompanied by guitarist Jamie Pregnell and backing vocalist Crystal Sky Campbell. They will be supported by Hobart's Carlee Rolins and Darwin singer and guitarist Leah Flanagan. Entry is free.
